HOME Safety Guide

Safety Guide Grindstones are safe tools if used in accordance with the basic principles.
However, improper use or careless handling of the machine can lead to damage to the grindstone.
To work safely, be sure to follow the "dos and don'ts" listed below.

What to do

  1. 01 When handling whetstones, follow the three principles: don't roll it, don't drop it, and don't hit it.
  2. 02 Store whetstones in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
  3. 03 Before installing the grinding wheel on the machine, perform a visual inspection (and a tapping test) to check for cracks, splits, chips, etc.
  4. 04 Check the grinding wheel specifications and expiration date on the inspection slip, and make sure that the maximum operating speed, dimensions, etc. shown are suitable for the machine.
  5. 05 Use flanges with the appropriate outer diameter and contact width that are equal on both sides.
  6. 06 Perform a test run for at least one minute before starting work that day, and for at least three minutes after replacing the grinding wheel.
  7. 07 Always use an appropriate wheel cover that covers at least half of the wheel.
  8. 08 Perform a test run for at least one minute before starting work that day, and for at least three minutes after replacing the grinding wheel.
  9. 09 The workpiece must be firmly fixed.
  10. 10 While working, wear protective equipment such as safety glasses, dust mask, earplugs, and gloves.
  11. 11 Prevent the scattering of sparks by using shields, etc.
  12. 12 To prevent cancer and respiratory diseases, prevent the dispersion of dust and ensure adequate ventilation.
  13. 13 When using a whetstone for the purpose of dressing (for metalworking) or truing (for shaping), do not hold the whetstone directly in your hand.
  14. 14 Balance with balance weights.
  15. 15 Use the label attached to the grindstone. The label must be larger than the flange diameter and free of dirt and tears.
  16. 16 The gap between the grindstone and the work rest should be 3mm or less, and the gap between the grindstone and the adjustment piece should be adjusted to within 3-10mm.
  17. 17 The standard length of the grinding wheel shaft after installation on the machine should be 13 mm.
  18. 18 Shake off the grinding fluid before stopping the rotation of the grinding wheel.

What not to do

  1. 01 Do not use a whetstone that has been dropped or hit, or that shows any abnormalities during inspection.
  2. 02 If the hole diameter of the grinding wheel does not fit the machine, do not force it in or modify the hole diameter dimensions.
  3. 03 Do not use the grindstone at a speed higher than the maximum operating speed indicated on the grindstone.
  4. 04 Do not use flanges that have deformations, scratches, dirt or rust on the surface that comes into contact with the grinding wheel.
Do not use flanges that have no relief.
  5. 05 When attaching the grinding wheel to the flange, do not overtighten the nut.
  6. 06 Do not use the side of a whetstone other than one that is intended for side use.
  7. 07 Do not rotate the grindstone before installing the grindstone cover.
  8. 08 Do not force the workpiece against the grindstone, and do not force the grindstone against the workpiece.
  9. 09 Do not directly touch the rotating grinding wheel.
  10. 10 During test run, do not stand in front of the grinding wheel rotation.
  11. 11 When using a portable grinder, do not place the grinder on a stand, floor, workpiece, etc. until the grinding wheel has completely stopped rotating.
  12. 12 Do not perform grinding work in areas where there is a risk of fire or explosion.
  13. 13 Do not enter within range of sparks.
  14. 14 Anyone who has not received safety training should not replace or test run the grinding wheel.
