Cherry Oilstone

The name “Oilstone” comes from the fact that the grinding wheel is soaked in oil such as kerosene or grinding oil. Oil-rubbed grinding stones are made of A-grain, have a wide range of grain sizes, and are characterized by their strength and resistance to loss of shape.
There are many shapes suitable for manual work, and they are easy to use in a wide range of applications.

Product Details

▼ Quality Requirements for Oil Stones

① Versatility

Capable of a wide range of manual grinding tasks such as deburring, chamfering, and blade sharpening without the need for complex material selection.

② Wear Resistance When using the surface of an A-shaped stone for grinding or a triangular stick stone for chamfering grooves, the stone's shape may deform, affecting work quality. Therefore, stones with low wear are required.

▼ Types and Selection of Oil Stones

① Grit Size

Grit size is selected based on the task. For woodworking, coarse grits are used for surface finishing, while medium and fine grits are used for metalworking. Extremely fine grits, such as #2000 A grit or A stick stones, are commonly used for polishing molds and finishing blades. These are general examples, and users often select grit sizes that suit their preferences.

② Hardness

The downside of oil stones is their hardness, which limits the range of materials and applications to light tasks. To improve work efficiency, softer stones can be selected to increase grinding power. Conversely, harder stones are chosen when shape deformation must be avoided. While grinding power decreases, shape stability improves.

③ Shape

For tasks such as grinding the bottom of grooves, square stick stones are suitable. For sharp corners and chamfering groove edges, triangular stick stones are recommended. Round stick stones are ideal for inner diameters and chamfering edges. The shape of the stone should match the workpiece.

④ Oil-Infused Some stones, like American-made India stones, are pre-infused with oil and do not require additional oiling before use. These can achieve smooth finishes right out of the box. Our company manufactures "Sakura," an oil-infused stone.

▼ Surface Correction for Oil Stones

If the stone becomes deformed, the following methods can be used for surface correction:

  1. Rub it against a flat stone of the same grit or a coarser stone.
  2. Use a diamond brick stone.
  3. Rub it against a concrete block or a flat earthen floor.
